Adobe Completes Acquisition of TubeMogul

SAN JOSE, Calif.–(Business Wire)–Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced the completion of its acquisition of
TubeMogul, a leader in video advertising that enables brands and
agencies to plan and buy video advertising across desktops, mobile,
streaming devices and TVs. The combination of Adobe and TubeMogul will
create the first end-to-end independent advertising and data management
solution that spans traditional TV and digital formats, simplifying what
has been a complex and fragmented process for the world’s biggest
brands. The planned integration with Adobe Audience Manager will allow
marketers to unify audience planning and media buying for video
advertising.

Growth of Video Content Marketing Eases, Survey Finds

North American marketers are increasing their spending on video content marketing, but they appear to be a bit less bullish than last year.

In October, Demand Metric and Vidyard surveyed 289 marketers about their video marketing objectives.

According to the survey, a majority of the respondents said they are upping spending at least somewhat for their video marketing this year. But the levels were down from 2015.

Most of the survey respondents worked for organizations in the B2B sector, where content marketing is a common tactic. According to a November 2016 survey by Bizible, Heinz Marketing, Radius, ReachForce and Uberflip, more than 80% of B2B marketers use content marketing to acquire customers.

Although the use of video content marketing is widespread and growing, marketers still struggle to measure its effectiveness. Nearly half of the respondents of the Demand Metric/Vidyard survey said that ROI is improving but a quarter said they don’t know what the returns are.

One subtle shift uncovered in the Demand Metric/Vidyard survey was that slightly fewer marketers said they were featuring video on their websites this year. The percentage slipped to 78% in 2016 from 81% in 2015. The same pattern could be seen for most other channels.

Google Chrome’s Latest Update Uses HTML5 by Default

In a move that was a long time coming, Google has now officially blocked Adobe Flash Player on Chrome. This means that content that needs Flash to run will require permission. Google moved gradually with this decision. They announced the plan in August and starting blocking Flash-based pages but it’s beginning with Chrome 55 where it has now truly bid farewell to Flash.

While HTML5 is now officially the content player for Chrome version 55, this doesn’t mean that Flash is gone permanently. Given that a number of sites still use Flash to display content, it makes sense to still leave it there. This time, however, it is disabled by default and users will have to enable it manually in order for a site to play its Flash content. Not only that, users will have to do the giving of permissions for every site.

So what happens to a site that runs on Flash? Content won’t display. This is where the manual permission giving comes into play. Since doing so would be rather tedious, Google has a plan mapped out. For now, they are enabling HTML5 for 1% of Chrome 55 users.

Starting January of 2017, users will be asked to run Flash on every site they have never visited. Restrictions would be tightened through what’s called the Site Engagement Index, a heuristic that uses a user’s browsing activity to determine how much they interact with a particular site.

In February 2017, Chrome 56 – the next major version – will be in its Stable stage. Currently, this version is available in the beta channel and those who are interested can test it out. For the beta test version, HTML5 has been enabled for 50% of users. By the time February hits, all users will have HTML5 enabled.

Google is hardly the first company who has bid farewell to Flash. Facebook switched to HTML5 for video content across all browsers in 2015. Even Adobe itself has encouraged users to turn to HTML5 for delivering content on the web. So given this turn of events, it’s not a surprise that Google would follow suit by completely abandoning Flash. It clearly has now begun but will be fully realized by 2017 with Chrome 56.

Chrome 55 is available on desktop computers running Mac, Windows and Linux. In addition, the version is also available for devices that run on iOS and Android. While there are changes that are applicable across platforms, there are also changes specific to a particular platform. For example, iOS users have requested for the removal of the All Bookmarks folder and that was granted. Android users, on the other hand, are now allowed to download music, videos and full web pages for offline viewing.

Apart from abandoning Flash, Chrome 55 also fixes an issue where the browser uses up a whole lot of memory. With version 55 now officially out, eyes are now turned towards Chrome 56 which is currently in beta mode. A version 57 is also in the works in the Development Channel.

Un homme perd la vie après une querelle à Longueuil

LONGUEUIL – Un homme a perdu la vie et un autre a été gravement blessé à la suite d’une querelle qui a dégénéré dans une résidence de l’arrondissement de Saint-Hubert, à Longueuil, tard samedi.

Des policiers se sont rendus à une adresse sur la rue Prince-Charles d’où provenait un appel logé au 911 vers 22 h 30.

À leur arrivée, ils ont aperçu la silhouette d’une personne apparemment blessée à travers une fenêtre et ont donc pénétré dans la maison.

Deux hommes dans la soixantaine gravement blessés se trouvaient à l’intérieur. Ils ont tous deux été transportés à l’hôpital, mais le décès de l’un d’eux a été constaté par la suite. L’autre homme serait «hors de danger», selon le porte-parole de la police de Longueuil Jean-Pierre Voutsinos.

«Il sera rencontré par les enquêteurs aussitôt que sa condition le permettra», a indiqué M. Voutsinos.
Les blessures semblent avoir été causées par arme blanche, selon les policiers.

Militants, députés et ministres libéraux se sont ainsi rassemblés pour lui souhaiter la bienvenue dans un restaurant de Mercier, dans la circonscription de Châteauguay, qui est représentée par M. Moreau.

Celui-ci a été accueilli par des applaudissements nourris et répétés lorsqu’il s’est présenté à la tribune pour prononcer un discours.

Visiblement ému, heureux et en bonne forme physique, M. Moreau a commencé son allocution en disant combien il était ravi de reprendre le travail.

Après avoir remercié sa famille et tous ceux qui l’ont appuyé lors de sa longue maladie, celui qui est devenu grand-père et parrain pendant sa convalescence est rapidement passé aux choses sérieuses.

Nous devons nous imposer comme le parti avec lequel les Québécois souhaitent poursuivre leur chemin.

Pierre Moreau, député de Châteauguay

Après avoir fait l’éloge pendant plusieurs minutes des mérites du « système de santé de Gaétan [Barrette] », il a vanté longuement le travail que les libéraux ont accompli au cours de l’année 2016.

« J’ai eu une position d’observateur privilégié [pendant mon arrêt de travail]. Ce que j’ai vu surtout, c’est un premier ministre qui n’a jamais dévié de son but, pour donner aux Québécois les moyens de leurs ambitions et amener le Québec à son plein potentiel », a-t-il déclaré.

Le retour de Pierre Moreau laisse présager un remaniement ministériel, comme l’a laissé entendre dimanche le premier ministre Couillard.

Peut-être prélude à une assignation au Conseil du Trésor – une fonction que lui présagent plusieurs analystes –, M. Moreau a insisté dans son discours sur la bonne tenue des finances publiques du Québec et sur une saine gestion du gouvernement libéral dans ce domaine. « Nous avons maintenant les moyens d’investir », a-t-il déclaré.

Attentat en Jordanie : 10 morts, dont une touriste canadienne – ICI.Radio

Sept policiers et deux autres civils ont également péri. Trente-quatre personnes ont été blessées, dont un autre Canadien, a indiqué le gouvernement du Canada.

La touriste canadienne a été tuée alors qu’elle visitait le château fort de la ville de Karak, située à environ 120 km au sud d’Amman, lorsqu’un groupe de personnes – dont le nombre varie de 5 à 10, selon les sources – munies d’armes automatiques a fait irruption sur les lieux, après avoir tiré sur des policiers.

Le gouvernement du Canada a offert ses condoléances aux proches de la citoyenne canadienne qui aurait perdu la vie et aux autres victimes des attaques. « Le gouvernement […] est prêt à aider la Jordanie à traduire en justice les auteurs de cette attaque odieuse », a fait savoir un porte-parole du ministère canadien des Affaires étrangères.

Les assaillants se sont retranchés dans la citadelle, encerclée par les autorités.

Les forces de sécurité ont annoncé avoir tué quatre des « hors-la-loi terroristes », à l’issue d’une chasse à l’homme à l’intérieur du château. De grandes quantités d’explosifs, d’armes diverses et de ceintures d’explosifs ont été saisies dans une cache, ont ajouté les autorités.

Des touristes qui étaient pris au piège dans le château médiéval ont pu être libérés après l’assaut donné par les forces de l’ordre, décrit par l’Office du tourisme jordanien comme un « labyrinthe de pièces voûtées et de couloirs infinis ».

Les attaques n’ont pas été immédiatement revendiquées, mais l’hypothèse d’un acte islamiste n’est pas exclue. L’identité des assaillants qui ont été abattus est encore inconnue.

Plusieurs attaques

La séquence des événements a commencé lorsqu’une patrouille de police a reçu des signalements de l’incendie d’une maison dans la ville de Qatraneh, dans le district de Karak, a indiqué la Sécurité publique. Les agents s’étant présentés sur les lieux ont fait l’objet de tirs provenant de l’intérieur de la maison, ont affirmé les autorités. Deux policiers ont été blessés, et les assaillants ont fui à bord d’une voiture, a-t-on indiqué.

Dans une autre attaque, des coups de feu ont été tirés vers des policiers en patrouille à Karak, sans faire de blessés.

Enfin, des hommes armés ont tiré sur le commissariat de police de Karak, « blessant plusieurs policiers et passants » qui ont été conduits à l’hôpital.

Un pays relativement sécuritaire

La Jordanie est un pays qui demeure relativement épargné par les attentats, bien que plusieurs incidents aient été recensés sur son territoire lors de la dernière année.

Le pays participe aux opérations aériennes contre le groupe armé État islamique (EI) en Syrie, aux côtés des Américains. Plusieurs Jordaniens sont cependant opposés à cet engagement. Ils critiquent le fait que cette opération entraîne la mort d’autres musulmans et accroît les menaces pour les Jordaniens eux-mêmes.

En juin, un attentat-suicide revendiqué par l’EI avait coûté la vie à sept gardes-frontières jordaniens près de la frontière avec la Syrie.

Après les attaques, l’ambassade canadienne en Jordanie a appelé par l’entremise de Twitter tous les Canadiens à éviter de voyager près de Karak jusqu’à nouvel ordre.

Un dur coup pour le tourisme

Cette attaque intervient au moment où la Jordanie tente désespérément de relancer le tourisme. Ce secteur clé de l’économie contribuait en 2015 pour 14 % du PIB du royaume.

Ce pays est réputé pour ses splendides vestiges, comme les ruines de Petra – l’une des sept merveilles du monde – ou le temple romain de Jerash.

Ces sites attiraient jusqu’à tout récemment des centaines de milliers de touristes occidentaux. Or, les troubles liés aux révoltes dans le monde arabe de 2011 et les conflits dans les pays voisins – au premier chef, la Syrie – ont fait fuir jusqu’au plus aventureux.
