Delaware animal shelter rebuilding after fatal car crash [video]

The Brandywine Valley SPCA has reopened its New Castle location just weeks after a car crashed into the shelter earlier this month.

Crews have cleaned and repaired the adoption areas, where dogs and cats are now available for adoption. The veterinary clinic has been gutted and is being rebuilt from scratch. BVSPCA Dir. of Marketing Linda Torelli estimated it will be two months before the veterinary clinic can fully reopen for business.

« We retrofitted two of our cat rooms and two of our meet and greet rooms into wellness clinic areas until we can rebuild the clinic, » Torelli said. Wellness visits and spay/neuter surgeries are by appointment only.

« Our staff and vendors pushed all the limits to re-open as quickly as possible, » said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA chief executive officer. « The animals need us as a safe haven, and the incredible outpouring of support from the community underscored how vital our services are to the pet families in the area. »

What happened

The shelter’s New Castle location had only been open 18 months when 36-year-old Latoya Cooper drove her car into the veterinary clinic side of the shelter, igniting a fire. The vet clinic is where the shelter carried out spay/neuter and wellness and sick visits.

« Word went out pretty quick amongst our staff that there’s a fire at New Castle, animals are on the loose. That’s all we knew. It was an absolutely terrifying phone call, every pet-lover’s worst nightmare, » said Linda Torelli, BVSPCA director of marketing.

An investigation remains underway into what caused the accident that killed Cooper, along with four cats. Firefighters and other first responders evacuated a hundred animals in a matter of minutes, as smoke and water spread throughout the facility causing more damage to the untouched part of the building.

« Our biggest challenge is going to be to bridge the financial impact. We have a clinic that is going to be closed indefinitely. Not only was that a service to the community, but it funded some of our other services. We also have additional costs for medical care for the animals, housing. And again, things insurance isn’t going to cover for us. So the biggest thing we need right now is financial donations from the community and every dollar is going to help us right now, » Torelli said.

Torelli said the total cost of the damages are still being totaled, but the shelter has set up a crowdfunding site with the goal of raising $100,000.

Rescuers rescue rescues

Some of the animals rescued from the fire have already been placed in homes. Two firefighters who were on the scene after the car crashed into the BVSPCA each took home a dog they helped rescue.

Volunteer firefighter Joe Facciolo carried a puppy he named « Squirt, » out of the shelter and held him until he could be moved to safety.

« Everybody was like, ‘You’re not going to put him down are you,' » said Facciolo, who works for the Elsmere Fire Company. « A lot of [firefighters] were saying, ‘Well I’m going to adopt him.’ ‘You leave this one alone, it’s mine,' » he recounted.

It was love at first sight and Facciolo said the feeling was mutual. Squirt couldn’t be happier in his new home in Wilmington.

Wilmington Manor Fire Company also responded to the crash and fire at the shelter. Volunteer firefighter Ken Phibbs and wife Chandelle took to Ivy, an English bulldog.

« She started seeing all the posts from the people on the scene from their social media accounts and she actually saw the one of her back in the chief’s truck with a baseball hat on, so she said that we needed to step up and help them and at least adopt an animal, » Phibbs said.

Chandelle said Ivy tugged at their hearts and the transition into their home has been great.

« If we can do our part and try to find a home for at least one animal, that would just put my mind at ease. And that was why I felt we should go up and rescue one of the animals, » Chandelle explained.

Bobbi Kristina Sings Adele, Channels Her Late Mother Whitney Houston in New Video

Considering her parents are the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, it should come as no surprise that Bobbi Kristina Brown had some truly impressive pipes. This month marked two months since BK tragically died at the age of 22 — and to honor her life which ended far too soon, her father shared video of her singing Adele’s “Someone Like You.” Check out the video to Bobbi Kristina’s incredible vocals.

Bobbi Kristina — also known as “Krissi” — died on July 26 after spending more than six months in a medically induced coma. On Jan. 31, 2015, her boyfriend and confidante Nick Gordon found Krissi face down in a bathtub, prompting him to call 911 and perform CPR on his girlfriend. Shortly after the incident, it was reported that drugs and alcohol didn’t appear to play a role in the incident.

During her months in the hospital, people began to be suspicious of Nick, though he has maintained his innocence since that fateful night he found Krissi. He was later found “legally responsible” for Bobbi Kristina’s death, a court ruling that satisfied her father, Bobby Brown. He said at the time, “I am pleased with the outcome of today’s court proceedings. All I ever wanted was answers relating to who and what caused my daughter’s death. Today’s judgment tells me it was Nick Gordon. Now I need to process all the emotions I have and lean on God to get me and my family through this.”

The often-rocky relationship between Bobbi Kristina and Nick prompted Bobby to start the Bobbi Kristina Serenity House, which is a non-profit organization designed to help victims of domestic violence. “We will provde a 24-hour crisis intervention, emergency transitional shelter, access to resources/referral services, and advocacy for social change with expert support service for victims and survivors of domestic violence,” the organization’s mission statement declares.

This Guy Popped a Really Old Pimple and Honestly Today Is Canceled

The Internet is a great and wonderful place…until you land upon Facebook page titled Dr. Pimple Popper and your whole life is literally ruined forever and there’s no going back to the way it was before. Well, be warned, because you are about to feast your eyes on probably the most disgusting pimple-popping video you’ve ever seen in your life.

In a video aptly named “Squeezing Huge Pimple” an unnamed man in a backward cap attempts to pop a zit that looks like it’s been there for years. “It hurts like f-cking hell,” he says to the camera. And in the whole one minute and 40 seconds that the video lasts, we doubt it stopped hurting.

Though it’s honestly so nasty and disgusting, clearly people are obsessed with the grossness, because garnering over 50,000 shares and 40,000 comments and 14 million views, people just can’t stop talking about this guy’s ear zit. Needless to say, people gave their two cents on the horrific video.

Some people were fully confused like this commenter who wrote, “So many questions. Why is he popping it so weird? What is stoping him from just getting all that sh-t out? Why isn’t he aiming his zit toward the sink so that it doesn’t drip all over his face? How did that pimple get so big? Do people wash their face every day?”

Other commenters tried to relate to the poor guy like this one who said: “ I had one of these under my armpit I swear to God squeezing it hurts like crazy!” And some were just annoyed that he kept pausing the popping, like this person who added: “I’m that bad that I’m getting frustrated with him cause he keeps stopping to wipe it just f-cking squeeze it so I can watch.”

So, without further ado, since our day is already ruined by this, here is the vilest pimple popping video we’ve ever seen. Oh, and this goes without saying, but, viewer discretion is highly advised.

Westfield Police Department given a unique donation

WESTFIELD, Mass. (The Westfield News) – The city’s police department received a unique donation recently—a video tribute.

The video was a donation from Silent Partner Marketing, a Manchester, Connecticut-based marketing company who is aiming to donate up to $500,000 worth of video production to police departments around the country for similar pursuits. The goal of the videos is to give back to police departments and “humanize the police departments,” according to Kyle Reyes, president and CEO of Silent Partner Marketing.

In the video, officers from the Westfield Police Department discuss the goals of the department, as well as its part within the community. One highlight includes a resident who said that officers brought him food when weather made it so he could not travel to the store.

“We had civilians tell their stories. The main focus was how the police department, civilians and residents need to work together,” Lt. Eric Hall said.

According to Hall, the video came to be after he heard about the outreach Silent Partner Marketing was doing.

“I saw it on social media and I took advantage,” he said.

“These men and women behind the uniforms could care less about politics,” Reyes said. “They don’t look at people and see political affiliation, they see people. They look at people and they just see a human life that needs to be served and protected.”

According to Reyes, the company is working with about 75 departments across the country, with many in Connecticut. In addition, fire departments and at least one emergency medical services department are receiving videos, as well.

Reyes said that the project started last December.

“Last December we announced that we would be donating $250,000 to police departments to help them tell their stories,” he said.

There was positive feedback overall, but also some negative criticism of the videos, according to Reyes. The negative criticism then inspired him to double the amount given and extend it “to first responders and veterans.”

In addition to the videos that are coming out this year, Reyes said that they are also working on a series called “Behind the Uniform,” which will tell the stories of those in law enforcement and first responders.

Google Plays With Video Ads In Search Results, Again

Google has begun testing video ads in search results. The video ads feature movies and serve up in the knowledge box on the right side of the search results page.

The searches require
specific keywords to trigger the movie trailers in the search results. For example, to trigger the video trailer for the movie « Lego Ninjago, » the searcher must type the entire movie title into the
search box plus the word « movie. »

In another example, typing in « Justice League » also triggers a movie trailer in the search results, rather than a link to the video on YouTube.

The
SEM Post, which first reported seeing the feature, suggests that the video will begin playing automatically and
that there is a toggle switch to turn off autoplay. That was not the case in the tests that Search Marketing Daily ran. The videos did not automatically begin to play after being served in
the search results on the desktop version of search. A click on the video was required in order for it to begin playing.

Google has been testing video ads for years. In 2011, the company
tested expandable search video advertisements in search query results. The ad units were called Media Ads, a paid-search ad unit for movies that is guaranteed to appear at the
top of the query results page.

Microsoft and Yahoo also have tested video ads in search results in the past. In 2015, Yahoo tested full-bleed autoplay video ads in search results that were
focused on retail. For instance, a Land’s End ad unit that ran during the holiday season in 2015 appeared at the top of the search results page across the entire browser window and temporarily pushed
down other query results.
