Are you setting the best marketing goals?

Goal setting is an important part of doing business. As we start the New Year, this is a good time to take a look at your goals.

You have to set goals for every aspect of your business and that certainly includes marketing. You probably know already that your goals need to be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time sensitive, known as SMART criteria. This gives you a good place to start when it comes to setting out your goals. You might think that the goal of marketing is always selling, but it’s not always the objective.

KNOW YOUR PURPOSE

You may have goals for various purposes for your marketing such as creating awareness, building your email list, getting more social engagement or something else entirely. The important thing is to understand the purpose of the marketing that you’re doing.

WHERE DO YOU STAND NOW?

If you don’t have much of a list or a social media following, then it’s important to decide what you should do first. Should you build more of a following and if so, exactly how will you accomplish it? If you have read my previous articles you’ll know that I believe that it is important to build your database list of existing and potential customers.

However, be careful! Never just buy social media followers from the people who offer 1000 followers for £x. These are likely to be very poor quality, and probably don’t exist and are highly unlikely to be your customer. Remember that, while important, ‘followers are vanity, sales are sanity’.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE?

Look toward the future of when you meet the goal that you set for yourself based on where you currently stand.

DETERMINE WHAT IS NEXT

Always knowing what you’ll do next when you reach a particular goal is helpful to setting the best marketing goals for your business. It’s always first things first – build your blog, build your list, market to the list. Repeat.

MAP IT ALL OUT

Creating a map of where you have been, where you are now, and where you want to go will help you succeed in the marketing goals that you set for yourself. It will also enable you to see gaps in your choices so that you can fill them.

DON’T JUMP THE GUN

If you haven’t tried content marketing yet, but have been successful with Google ads or with great referrals from existing happy customers don’t drop what you’re doing. Anything you start from scratch may take time to build to the return you want, so start where you are now, and build from that base.

UNDERSTAND YOUR AUDIENCE

I have often said this but all marketing starts with your audience, and without knowing who they are it will be difficult to create a marketing plan that will work for you.

KNOW YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Understanding how your products and services benefit your audience will also help you know where to start with your marketing efforts. Does your audience know that they need what you have, or do you need to educate them? You might be surprised how little your current customers know about other products or services you offer.

In summary, do your research to know your audience, learn your products, and evaluate where you stand today. This is necessary to ensure that you choose the best marketing goals for your business today and in the future. What works for you today will not necessarily work for your business tomorrow as platforms like Facebook continue to grow.

BREAKING NEWS

Facebook Messenger Rolls Out Group Video Chat: The new Group Video Chat feature in Facebook Messenger “makes it simple and seamless to stay connected face-to-face.”

Facebook introduced “another way to go live on Facebook” with Live Audio. This new format allows publishers that “want to tell a story on Facebook with words and not video” to go live with audio only.

Twitter Phases Out Lead Generation Ads: Twitter is phasing out its lead generation ad format used by brands to request people’s personal details such as their names, Twitter handles, and email addresses.

Twitter Fixes Reporting Error for Video Ad Metrics: Business Insider reports that “a bug in a recent version of Twitter’s Android app inflated video advertising metrics by as much as 35%.” Twitter proactively informed affected partners of the discrepancy, fixed the error, and issued refunds for overbilling on video ad campaigns that ran between November 7 and December 12.

Twitter Ranks Top Tweets Search Results by Relevance: Twitter has started ranking top tweet search results by relevance rather than in reverse chronological order.

Delight Customers with After-Sales Content Marketing

Sales are the bread and butter of any business. It’s important to remember that your relationship with a customer does not end simply because money has changed hands. If you work in sales, then you know how difficult it is to acquire and build a relationship with a new customer.

Research has discovered that 44 percent of companies have a greater focus on customer acquisition versus 18 percent that focuses on retention. That’s crazy when you consider it costs five times as much to attract a new customer than to keep an existing one!

Help them to better use your products

When someone buys a product or service from you, your customer base increases which is cause for celebration. You shouldn’t celebrate too soon, you need to make sure that customers are happy with their purchase.

If customers don’t like what they buy, this could result in bad news for your business. Unhappy customers return products. And, when it can cost almost double the amount to return a product into the supply chain as it does to deliver it, returns are something you’re going to want to avoid. Unhappy customers also leave bad reviews. The internet is a place where everyone’s voice can be heard, and with 72 percent of millennials researching stores online before making a purchase, you’re going to want to avoid any bad press. With a number of online stores growing daily, even an average three-star review could damage your reputation.

Here are a couple of things you can create to help your customers out and reduce your chances of receiving bad reviews or returns:

1. Guides

By creating a comprehensive guide that tells customers all they need to know about your product, you can ensure they get the best out of it. But it’s important to bear in mind that text doesn’t always capture the attention of people. To make sure your guide is attractive to customers, focus on beautiful design — with lots of white space so that it’s not overbearing and cool graphics to keep your readers’ attention.

And guides aren’t just for after-sales. You can use them to encourage customers to buy from you. Especially if you post your guide on popular content marketing curation sites.

2. Blog posts

Blog posts act in a similar way to guides. Your blog should not just be a source of information for new prospects and leads, you should also create content that would benefit your current customers. For example, if you run a travel company, don’t just create articles that encourage customers to buy a holiday from you, write pieces that will get current customers excited for the adventure they have already planned.

3. Videos

Video is fast becoming the dominant player in content marketing. So it goes without saying that videos are a great way to educate viewers while keeping them engaged. There are a couple of different types of videos you can create to delight your customers:

  • Tutorial videos are great for showing customers around your website. Particularly if you have a range of in-depth features. By showing your customers how to use these, they can get more out of your website and thus be happier with what they have paid for/signed up for.
  • How To videos show customers how to use your products rather than your website or service. How To videos are great for practically any product — from toys and games consoles to make-up and homeware products.

4. Stay in touch

Customers need to know that they are special all the time. The fortunate thing is, you can do this pretty effortlessly with some after-sales content.

Here are two great ways to keep in touch with your customers.

Email marketing is still a great way to keep in touch with your customers — if you do it right.

  • Don’t email your customers without a reason. The first time you send them a pointless email is the last time they will open a message from you.
  • Make sure your emails include offers and add value for your customers.
  • Always make your email subject lines as catchy as possible so that your emails actually get opened!

The biggest sites on the internet, behind search engines, are social networking sites — so it’s worth having a presence there. Get your customers involved — actively ask them about the experiences with your company. One successful example of this is the #PutACanOnIt campaign from Red Bull which earned them an award for ‘Best Use of a Hashtag’.

Final Thoughts

Don’t waste all of that time and effort you spent converting a lead into a customer. It doesn’t take much to keep your current customers happy, just a little after-sales content every now and then will delight them enough to become fans of your brand.

Plus, keeping in touch keeps you at the top of their mind. So, if they ever need a product or service again and they know you sell it, you’ll be their first port of call.

VOCM – City Councillor Addresses Sidewalk Clearing in Online Video

St. John’s Councillor Dave Lane says the city is taking steps to improve the conditions of sidewalks during the winter months, but continued improvements will require a major investment.

Lane, who says he also likes to walk, recently posted a video online asking for more input from residents to keep the conversation going. Lane says is difficult to invest more when council just released a budget that cut the mil rate for homeowners in the capital.

Through December and January the city of St. John’s has already recorded well over 150 cm of snow. That always creates challenges for maintenance crews. Lane says in many cases, no matter how hard they try, or how much they spend, we are at the mercy of mother nature.

Live Video Marketing: Yes, There’s a Right Way to Do It – Skyword

Everyone’s talking about live video, and many brands are trying to get in on the action. From major media organizations like NPR to independent beauty product sellers, streaming video’s potential for reaching an engaged, real-time audience has made it a new frontier for warfare among the various social media platforms. After Twitter blazed trails with Periscope, Facebook built its own live-video experience into its News Feed, while Snapchat and Instagram have also invested heavily into storytelling experiences build around streaming video.

By now, many companies have asked their marketing departments to give this new channel a try. The results have been mixed: while some companies instantly found audiences waiting for them online, others have failed to gain the traction they might have anticipated. Their frustrations are compounded when those marketers who are hard pressed for streaming video results follow the advice of live video tip sheets to a T, only to have their efforts rewarded with tiny audiences and paltry engagement.

The problem is with the prescription being handed out: like other digital channels, live video marketing is poorly served by a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead of being handed a tip sheet of what to do to improve your results, marketers would be better served by a guide to the decision-making process when building a live strategy—a road map for building their own customized campaigns.

So let’s get started.

Choose Your Platform

Where you do your video marketing will dictate much of your approach. Unlike other types of social content, you can only stream live to one channel at a time. Rather than trying to create content that can be repurposed, it’s better to make video experiences that are as channel specific as possible.

Facebook, as in so many other forms of social media marketing, has quickly established itself as the most indispensable platform for creating live video. It offers significant reach, provides multiple methods of user engagement and sharing, and gives brands several methods of extending their reach through user notifications and saving live sessions as video to your brand page. There are exceptions to its marketing power, such as when you’re targeting a young audience that prefers visual social networks like Snapchat, but Facebook is generally a good place for live streaming video marketing to start.

Facebook Live Logo

But if you have a highly engaged Twitter following, Periscope shouldn’t be discounted. And certain forms of storytelling can be much more effective on Instagram and Snapchat, particularly when you’re trying to create intimate user experiences—this is one advantage those platforms have over Facebook.

Brands could even consider using multiple channels simultaneously, and creating content that leverages those experiences. As an example, a company could host a live QA session on Facebook, while another member of the marketing team runs a Snapchat live stream that goes behind-the-scenes in showing how the video is being produced. It’s two types of video content for two different channels, each offering its own experience.

Learn on the Fly

Marketers creating livestreaming video should embrace its opportunity for learning on the go, and making quick changes to improve those experiences as they’re taking place. Most platforms offer instant feedback in various forms: Facebook lets users Like and comment as the session takes place, creating a conversation between the video host and his or her audience. Periscope offers even simpler feedback in the form of hearts that flood the screen, created by users touching their mobile screens to convey their appreciation.

This is a great asset to marketers. Instead of producing content and publishing it live upon its completion, livestreaming video can literally be improved as you go, according to Business 2 Community. You can even solicit this feedback directly, which is what has made the live QA session so successful, since it lets consumers shape the content they are watching.

This feedback can continue to be gathered after the video has played, if it is saved to a platform like Facebook. Meanwhile, social network metrics can offer platform-specific insights into your success. But the real-time analysis is a unique facet of this type of content creation, providing thrill along with gratification when improvisation leads to better results.

Test Often, and Go With What Works

No matter where you choose to start your live experiments, try a wide range of content that explores the possibilities of streaming video while testing your audience to see what they’re most attracted to. Between webinars, QAs, instructional demos, special announcements and other formats, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Testing is critical because, as Forbes pointed out, not every brand will have success with the same types of live content. Cooking brands have found great success with instructional videos that showcase recipes and products. Sports brands have had success tapping their internal expertise to answer fan questions on the fly. You’ll need to test a wide range of video content to see what works, but don’t be afraid to lean in hard to whatever demonstrates traction with your audience. Ultimately, your audience will dictate the type of content you create.

The best approach might surprise you. Take, for example, Buzzfeed’s video experiment involving a watermelon and set of rubber bands. The premise was simple, but absurd: Buzzfeed employees would incrementally wrap rubber bands around a watermelon, in a test to see how many it would take before the watermelon exploded. It seems trivial, but the video earned massive engagement numbering into hundreds of thousands of views, and that doesn’t count the social impact it make. Consumers were able to see the tension ramp up as the watermelon bent under the stress of the rubber bands, and this was enough to hold their attentions through the live session. This goofy idea not only worked, but it established a template for future viral content for the brand.

That’s not to say the key to your marketing success hinges on your ability to sell exploding fruits to your audience. Video content, as always, must fit your brand’s voice. But within those parameters, there is plenty of room to get creative—and, with a little effort, better results.

Revelation Online Video Shows You How to Make Adult Loli Characters

There’s some real jailbait designs that some users came up with for the character creation feature in My.com’s Revelation Online MMO; but if you want to raise that limit from questionable to acceptable, there’s one video in particular that showcases how gamers can make adult lolicon characters in the game.

YouTuber RedChain MMO Gaming put together a quick three and a half minute video creating a character using the loli class to make them into an adult. You can check it out below.

The video goes through the motions of turning the loli-style character archetype into an adult while keeping certain features from the Spiritshaper class, such as the child-like eyes and face structure.

They broaden the shoulders, raise the height of the legs, raise the height of the torso and neck, and give her slightly longer hair. This turns the Spiritshaper class from a little girl into a somewhat adult looking little girl.

Now some people might be thinking this is all for fap purposes, but the reality is that some people might like to play as the Spiritshaper class but they want someone who looks older. This basically gives you a quick look at how to make that happen.

The end result of the little experiment is showcased at the 3:15 mark in the video above. We see that despite the legs being a little long, once the class is decked out in an actual outfit, she actually looks about right and somewhat evenly proportioned. It would have been nice if the video had gone on just a little longer in order to showcase how the character class looks moving around in the actual game world or engaging in combat, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

Revelation Online is currently undergoing closed beta testing, but you can sign-up to participate in the game by visiting the My.com official website. Theydon’t say exactly when the game will go open beta, but you can try your hand at some of the features by purchasing a founder’s pack, assuming it’s a game you want to play.
