Zelda Wii U has been in radio silence for quite a while now, and it will probably stay that way at least until Twilight Princess HD comes out in March. We may not even see the game until the Nintendo NX is announced, whenever that is, since the game is pretty likely to get a dual release on both Wii U and Nintendo NX. Nevertheless, the rumor mill in the sky keeps on turnin’, and we’ve got a phat one for you today. According to Gamer Professionals, a leaked marketing video from Nintendo drops some huge hints about an upcoming Zelda game that may be Zelda Wii U.
This marketing video, which Gamer Professionals got hold of but hasn’t released for legal reasons, supposedly is an early draft of what could be a big Zelda Wii U presentation. The video takes an unusual tack for a Zelda game: Instead of emphasizing Link’s own quest, it depicts the relationship between parent and child. Most of the action is apparently between live-action characters, and focuses on a little girl who wants to be like Link. The video is intercut with footage from past Zelda games, but doesn’t have any new footage. It simply ends with the phrase “A New Generation Begins” and the overall Legend of Zelda series logo.
So, I’ve got two questions. Is it real? Is it about Zelda Wii U? They’re both hard to answer. We have to make a lot of leaps to assume this leaked video is a real thing. It’s described in-depth and in great detail, and comes from an industry source, but we don’t see a frame of it. It could well be fake. But sometimes, rumors are true, and industry leaks are often real. I could go either way and I’ll leave the speculation to you.
As for the actual content of the purported Zelda video, that’s a more interesting question. Could this be about Zelda Wii U? Is it just a marketing campaign about metaphorically introducing your kids to the Zelda series? Or is it something more—a hint that Zelda Wii U will feature an older Link, or even a female Link? Does the Wii U logo at the end of the video mean this is Zelda Wii U, or something else entirely? Could it have to do with Twilight Princess HD? At least it isn’t about Hyrule Warriors Legends!
The video is a cipher for the moment, provided it even exists. It’s a good puzzle—there’s lots of room for speculation. What do you think? Does it sound real to you? If it is real, what do you think it’s about?
