Downer Ave. businesses hope to see long-term vacancies filled

Daniel Goldin’s bookstore continues to operate in Milwaukee’s Downer Ave. business district, even as some neighboring storefronts have remained empty for years.

Goldin uses author’s visits and other marketing tactics to draw shoppers to Boswell Book Co. But, he said, it would be helpful if some of the street’s long-term vacancies could finally be filled — especially now that those buildings have a new owner.

« People don’t like to walk past empty storefronts, » Goldin said. « There’s probably a certain amount of traffic I’m missing. »(3)
